Home games were special for Andy Skrabek when he suited up for the Flin Flon Bombers.

“The thing I remember the most about playing in Flin Flon, besides the awesome teammates, friendships, and the community’s unwavering love of the game, is the Whitney Forum,” he said. “I have never stepped into another arena that represents the sport of hockey as well as the Whitney. In my eyes it will always be a shrine to the game and a jewel of the north. It was by far my favorite place to ever step on the ice, and I am happy to have had the privilege to be a Bomber.”

Skrabek played forward for two seasons, 2002-2004, for the Bombers. He wrapped up his junior career in Yorkton and later suited up for the University of Manitoba Bisons.

These days Skrabek lives on a small acreage south of Warren, Man., with his wife Renee and a group of pets. He is a production manager for a fertilizer equipment manufacturing facility just outside of Winnipeg.

While Bomber fans knew of Skrabek’s skill with a stick, he has other talents. For a few years he, his wife, and his brother were in a band called Brother Peter.

“We picked this name because we would always tell people we were going to play music with my brother, Peter, and it kind of morphed into the band’s name,” Skrabek said.

In the group, Skrabek, who was not involved in music in Flin Flon, played bass while his wife was on drums, and his brother sang and played guitar. The group has been on hiatus for two years. However, it has been asked to reunite for the 100th anniversary of Teulon, Skrabek’s hometown.
