One of Hapnot Collegiate’s top basketball players has been named to a provincial all-star team.

Meadow Taylor, a Grade 12 wing for the senior Kweens, was one of 33 players named to the provincial A-AAA all-star team for graduating female players. The team, compiled by Basketball Manitoba, honours the top Grade 12s on the hard court each year.

Taylor was a key member of the Hapnot senior Kweens team that won this year’s Zone 11 title and the Hamiota senior girls’ invitational tournament, adding two second place finishes in The Pas’ Bill McDonald Memorial Basketball Tournament and the Regent Custom Cresting Viking Invitational in Brandon. In five tournaments this year including zones, the Kweens went 13-3, finishing on the podium four times.

The team was set to play at this year’s AA girls’ provincials in Winnipeg March 19-21, entering as the second-seeded team. The tournament was cancelled, along with all high school athletics and activities province-wide, due to COVID-19.

Taylor was one of five graduating players on this year’s Hapnot Kweens team, joining guards Elektra Colquhoun and Jessie Kozar, wing Alaina Loroff and forward Meghan Oliynyk.

Several other northern players were named to graduating all-star teams. MBCI Spartan Austyn Early and R.D. Parker Trojans Erica Anderson and Emma Deibert were each named to the same team as Taylor.

Three players from MBCI - Brett Marlow, Mathew Miller and Austin Uffelman - were named to the 33-player list for A-AAA male graduating players.
