Three of Hapnot’s four varsity volleyball teams have punched their ticket to provincials, with the school taking home three zone titles on their home court in two weeks.
The senior varsity Hapnot Kweens joined both the junior Kings and Kweens squads in winning their Zone 11 title, doing so at Hapnot on Nov. 17. Hapnot hosted both the senior boys’ and girls’ zone tournaments on Nov. 16 and 17.
The Kweens breezed through their first two pool games, beating Chief Sam Cook 25-2, 25-10 and getting a 25-5, 25-6 win against the Frontier Raiders.
After earning a bye to the tournament semi-finals, Hapnot moved on to the tournament final after a commanding 25-2, 25-7 win over the 1972 Memorial Thunder from Oxford House. That victory set up a finals match against OCN’s Oscar Lathlin Collegiate Wolverines. Hapnot had their toughest test yet, but came out with a 25-13, 25-16 win and the school’s third zone banner.
Things didn’t go so smoothly for the senior Kings. After being handed an early loss in pool play at the hands of Oscar Lathlin Collegiate, the Kings were knocked out in the semi-finals by the eventual champion Frontier Raiders, preventing Hapnot from making a clean sweep of all four Zone 11 titles.
The senior Kweens will head to MacGregor for provincials on Nov. 29. Both junior Hapnot teams will be in action as well, with the junior Kweens heading to Morris on Nov. 22 and the Kings hosting junior varsity provincials in Flin Flon from Nov. 22 to 24. The junior varsity provincials will be the third major tournament for the school in as many weeks, coming after the school hosted both junior and senior zone championships.
