The Flin Flon midget Bombers’ Norman Midget AA League season has come to an end, thanks to a pair of upset losses to Cross Lake.

The Islanders won a best-of-three series played in Flin Flon and Creighton last weekend, earning Cross Lake a spot in the league finals against Thompson and sending the second-seed Bombers home.

Flin Flon won the first game 7-5 at the Creighton Sportex on Feb. 8, but faltered against the Islanders on Feb. 9, losing 6-5.

In a winner-take-all Game Three on Feb. 10, the Islanders came out on top in a see-saw battle that saw the Bombers lose 8-6 despite a two-goal lead in the second period.

The Bombers had locked up second place in the four team league, finishing the year with 14 wins and 29 points in 22 games. Cross Lake finished third with 20 points and 10 wins. The top spot Thompson King Miners went 20-2 through their regular season, with their only two losses coming against the Bombers.

Cross Lake will now face off against the King Miners for the league title later this month.

While the pair of defeats marks the end of the midget Bombers’ northern title hopes, the team still has more hockey to play. The Bombers will head to Peguis for provincials next month.
