There isn’t much left for Hunter Lee to conquer in Canadian junior wrestling. The senior ranks are next.

Lee partook in his first major senior-level tournaments this month, making the jump from the cadet and junior levels.

The Saskatchewan Huskies wrestler won a spot on Canada’s senior national team at the World Team Non-Olympic Weight Trials on July 6. Facing two other nationally recognized wrestlers, including his Huskies teammate Andrew Johnson, Lee beat both, earning a spot in the 92-kilogram category.

A day after winning the spot, Lee headed to Guelph, Ont., to take part in the Canada Cup in the 86-kilogram category, earning a bronze medal. Lee was only defeated by one wrestler in the tournament – Concordia Stinger Alex Moore, who ended up winning the gold medal in his class.

Things didn’t slow down for Lee after the Canada Cup. A week later, Lee was in Spain, ready to take part in the 92-kilogram event at the Grand Prix of Spain tournament. Lee finished with another bronze medal in the senior-level contest, behind gold medalist Tamerlan Tapsiev of Russia and Spanish entrant Alejandro Canada Pancorbo.

Meanwhile, the hustle continues. Lee will be preparing for two top-tier, junior-level competitions – the United World Wrestling (UWW) Pan-American Championships in Brazil next month, and the UWW World Championships in Slovakia. It will be the first time Lee takes part in either event at the junior level.
