The Demolition Derby at Pine Root Raceway was a smashing hit Sunday with over 1,000 people watching. Dustin Law won the main event after going head-to-head with Shawna Spring. The crowd roared every time vehicles collided heavily. Some vehicles nearly went over the dirt wall that kept them in the battle zone. While a few had success on the Sunday afternoon, the sister act of Stephanie and Shawna Spring created havoc as they teamed up during the main event. They displayed a no-quit attitude. "It's awesome, you can't explain it because when you get into a vehicle and you get to smash it, it's the awesomest feeling in the world," said Stephanie. When cars weren't being smashed to pieces, crews were busy doing fast repairs. Hammers proved to be an important tool to open up fenders not allowing wheels to move. Jason Mucha, who was happy to make it through two heats, had plenty of banging done to his car. "It still moves, it still fires up," he said. "It just needs to be pushed out." Chances are the crowd didn't care what they had to do as long as they got to see them banged up again. Tammy Kostuchuk and her two kids were enjoying every minute of it. "It's been a pretty good show," Kostuchuk said, as she then asked her kids what they liked. Their response was the smash ups. "I like smashed up cars," six-year-old Brett said, with a big smile. His mom has been taking him to the derby since he was in a car seat. The weather cooperated as people sat in the sun while banged up vehicles sent debris and dirt flying. Danny Haley might have said it best. "I've been having lots of fun," he said. "It's not about how good I do, but how good the crowd figures it is, and it's all for the crowd." It's unlikely the crowd went home disappointed.
