The Hapnot junior Kings and Kweens have two more banners for the school after winning both the boys’ and girls’ Zone 11 titles on their own home court.

It was a dominant performance for the Kweens, who made it from the start of the four-team tournament to the end without dropping a set. Hapnot took down Oscar Lathlin Collegiate, Grand Rapids and Chief Sam Cook in the round robin, before beating Chief Sam Cook again 25-12, 25-6 in the semifinals and winning 25-16, 25-19 over Grand Rapids in the tournament final.

The Kings had a slightly tougher road, facing a larger field. In pool play, the Kings lost to Grand Rapids in a close 22-25, 22-25 game, finishing second in the pool after getting a win over Oscar Lathlin.

Unable to earn a bye into the semifinals, Hapnot played Gillam for a spot in the semifinal round. After the Kings won 25-13, 15-12, they advanced to play Chief Sam Cook in semifinals – a game that ended with a 25-17, 25-12 Hapnot win, setting up a final between Hapnot and Oscar Lathlin.

In a game that proved much closer than the two teams’ previous game in pool play, Hapnot pulled out a 25-17, 25-18 win to win the tournament.

Both clubs will qualify for provincials as a result of the win. The Kings won’t have to travel far for their tournament – Hapnot will host the JV boys provincials from Nov. 22 to 24.

The Kweens will hit the road for Morris for their tournament.

Kodiaks

The Creighton Kodiaks girls’ volleyball squad extended their season after a strong performance on home turf.

Creighton Community School hosted a 3A conference tournament on Nov. 3, with two spots in at regionals on the line.

The Kodiaks started strong, beating Hudson Bay in their first game. In the second game, Creighton faced a powerhouse Carrot River team that dealt the Kodiaks their only loss of the weekend. Following the setback, the Kodiaks surged to the finish, beating both Senator Allan Bird from Montreal Lake and Air Ronge’s Senator Myles Venne Huskies to finish the tournament in second spot. Only undefeated Carrot River finished higher than the Kodiaks.

The finish qualified the Creighton team for a 3A regional tournament in Wakaw. There, the Kodiaks faced off against Wakaw Warriors and Foam Lake Panthers in a three-team pool.

However, the team’s luck ran out, as the Kodiaks lost to both teams, ending their hopes of a provincial tournament berth.
