Hapnot Kings basketball is rolling right along, with the team winning Hapnot’s first tournament title of 2019 earlier this month.

The Hapnot varsity Kings headed to Warren for the recent Warren Wildcats varsity tournament, held Feb. 8 and 9.

Through the opening round, the Kings looked strong, beating the Chemawawin Eagles 64-53 and the MacGregor Mustangs 72-44. That led the Kings to first place in their pool, punching their ticket to the championship game against the Landmark 96ers.

Hapnot earned the win after a 80-55 slugfest, giving the Kings their first tournament win of 2019.

Earlier this year, the junior varsity Kings claimed a consolation round title in the Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School (DRCSS) JV tournament. Hapnot dropped their opening game to the Portage Trojans 67-39, sending them to the consolation bracket. From there, the Kings hit their stride, first beating the HBOIERC Huskies from Norway House 59-31, then taking down the Neepawa Tigers 65-48 in the consolation final.

Hapnot’s basketball teams will soon hit the court for zones. The junior varsity Kweenws and Kings will face off for a Zone 11 banner on Feb. 21 to 23.
