It has not taken long for Dean Allison to establish himself as an important player and leader for the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology men’s hockey team.

In just his second season with the Calgary-based school, the former Flin Flon Bomber has been named the Trojans’ captain. Allison, who captained the Bombers, is also SAIT’s leading scorer this season.

When asked about what allows Allison to be productive offensively, SAIT head coach Dan Olsen said “his work ethic, drive and determination, and most importantly his very high hockey IQ.”

Allison is greatly enjoying his time with the Trojans.

“Playing for SAIT has been a privilege and I am very honoured to have been named captain in my second season here,” he said. “The ACAC is a very good league and the Trojans athletics program is first class. The Trojans men’s hockey team has a proud history of winning, and we hope to continue that tradition this year. We have our own arena, a fully equipped and dedicated dressing room and the campus training staff and fitness centre are excellent as well.”

The student-athlete also emphasized that SAIT has a modern campus with a spectacular view of the Calgary skyline.

A SAIT honour roll student and ACAC Academic Athlete Award winner, he is studying business.

“The business program has been excellent and I have enjoyed the wide variety of courses and topics I have learned, from accounting, economics, finance, marketing, human resources and business law,” Allison said.

After spending time in the Junior B Pacific Junior Hockey League and with two Junior A squads in the BCHL, Allison joined the Bombers in 2013-14 as a 19-year-old. He posted 10 points in part of a season and then had 15 goals and 53 points in 56 games as a 20-year-old.

“I will never forget my two years in Flin Flon and playing for the historic Bombers franchise in the Whitney Forum,” Allison said. “We had some great games in front of some big crowds in The Zoo.”

He said his only regret was not being able to advance further in the playoffs and to win the Canalta Cup that the people of Flin Flon deserve.

“I drove back to Flin Flon a couple of summers ago from Vancouver and enjoyed some camping and fishing, and the community will always be very special to me,” Allison said. “I remain very grateful to have played for the Bombers.”
