The captain’s “C” for the Norman Northstars U18 AAA team will once again be worn by a Flin Flon player. Defender Jordan Pfoh was named captain for the Northstars, who are seven games into their season.

Pfoh has spent the past two seasons playing with the Northstars, scoring 45 points in 95 games before this season started. Last season, he was named defensive player of the year by the squad.

“They kinda gave me a hint [I would be named captain] last year,” he said.

“I was kind of expecting it more than less… I’m definitely really happy. It was a big honour, but I don't really know what to say. I felt good about it. I was really happy to be named captain.”

Pfoh has embraced his role as captain.

“You’ve got to keep everybody motivated and get them to keep pushing through, game in, game out,” he said.

“With coaching, they just want me to talk to them whenever there's problems with the team.”
Pfoh spent early September in training camp with the Flin Flon Bombers. He was one of the last defenseman cut, and one of the younger players to get significant pre-season playing time.

“That was really good,” Pfoh said on his experience at Bomber camp.

“I got a lot of experience, learned a lot out there playing with a higher calibre of hockey team.”

Pfoh has high goals for the team and himself, looking for improvement. He said he was looking to get the team Most Valuable Player award this season.

“I want to improve myself throughout the year and get better every game,” he said.

“The playoffs would be our biggest goal overall, hopefully we can go .500.”

The team spent the first three games in the season on a southern road trip and came up empty, losing all three matchups. The Northstars also lost both games on their home-opening weekend to the Central Plains Capitals. Pfoh had four points through the first five games, including one goal.

“The games are really tight,” he said.

“I feel like we have to work a little bit on our conditioning. We just kind of fell off during the third period. We got tired.”

The Northstars normally play their home games in Thompson, but will play a pair of home games in The Pas against the Parkland Rangers Nov. 9-10.
