Flin Flon Skating Club showcases talent, presents awards

With vibrant costumes, impressive spins and jumps, and a diverse array of dance-worthy tunes, the Flin Flon Skating Club’s annual spring show offered lots of entertainment.

With vibrant costumes, impressive spins and jumps, and a diverse array of dance-worthy tunes, the Flin Flon Skating Club’s annual spring show offered lots of entertainment.

The Sunday, March 13 show, entitled Skate a Rainbow, featured 26 playful numbers that drew on the theme with costumes of every colour and song titles like “Black Magic Woman”, “The Pink Panther”, and “Purple People Eater”.

Clusters of young CanSkate students demonstrated their newfound skating abilities, while STARSkaters showcased their skill in pairing figures to music, and more experienced skaters wowed with graceful solo performances.

Skaters ranged in age from two to 16, with many of the older skaters helping the younger groups on the Whitney Forum ice.

“It is always great to get to see how excited all of the skaters are to showcase what they have learned that year, in a way that makes them feel special and celebrated,” said ice show coordinator Jennifer Dickens.

Dickens noted that the community’s support for the annual event is vital to the success of the club.

“Our annual ice show helps to offset our ice user bill, which is over $20,000 a season,” she said. “Without this event, and our ticket sales, we wouldn’t be able to keep our program user fees affordable for families registering.”
