The time is nigh for take two on the Saskatchewan provincial cross-country skiing championships.

The Flin Flon Ski Club will host one of the province’s biggest races on March 16-17, going around a series of circuits at the ski club throughout the weekend.

Cold weather isn’t likely to postpone the event, which was initially supposed to be held on Feb. 16-17 but was cancelled when Mother Nature refused to play ball. Under Cross Country Saskatchewan rules, any atom and peewee skiing event must be cancelled if temperatures dip below minus-15, while all races are to be cancelled if conditions are minus-20 or colder. On the first scheduled weekend, temperatures dipped as low as minus-34 degrees.

However, warmer recent temperatures may cause another problem – the weather may be too warm for some skiers. Temperatures on March 16 - 17 are likely to hover around zero degrees, which could impact snow and trail conditions.

Flin Flon Ski Club president Dean Grove is confident the trails will be ready to go for the race.

“Conditions are looking good for the event to go,” he said.
