Swimming in their own home pool for the first major event of the year, the Flin Flon Aqua Jets finished their latest meet with a substantial number of honours.
In total, Aqua Jets swimmers won 50 different medals during the club’s winter meet, which included athletes both from the Flin Flon club and from their northern rivals, The Pas Roadrunners.
Connor Brown and Madison Campbell led the way for the Aqua Jets. Each finished on top of the podium more than any other swimmers. Brown won six separate gold medals, while Campbell won four. Both swimmers combined, along with Maia Bellisle and Brennen Sapergia-Green, to win a silver in the mixed 200-metre freestyle kick relay near the end of the meet.
Not to be outdone by their teammates, Bellisle and Sapergia-Green earned plenty of hardware in solo events. Bellisle won a gold, a silver and a bronze in different distances, while Sapergia-Green left the meet with two solo silvers and a bronze.
Jordan Gorrell won four gold medals for high finishes, adding a silver medal as well in a fifth race. Mila Neubuhr won four medals, including a pair of golds, while Evalina Dauk won a medal at each spot on the podium.
Dax Lawrence finished the meet with a gold, three silvers and a bronze, while Isabel Plamondon headed home with four silver medals. Jonah Poochay and Ryan Nawrocki combined for three silver medals and four bronze medals on the day.
Other swimmers finished with a smaller yet still respectable medal haul. Piper Sapergia-Green had two bronze medal finishes. Cory Lane received one bronze as well, while younger swimmers Janae Neufeld and Elynn Smith finished with a silver and a bronze respectively.
The meet took place before the Aqua Centre's sudden Jan. 28 closure.
