This year’s annual prospect showcase tournament for SJHL and MJHL teams will see a new face joining the crew.
Instead of both leagues sending three teams each to the now-annual showcase in Regina, the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) will join up, with each league sending two teams of all star players - one of 16-to-18-year-old players and one of 19 and 20-year-old players. Each team’s coaching staff will be made up of different bench bosses from around each league.
The showcase will take place Jan. 21-22 at the Cooperators Centre in Regina.
Last year, eight Flin Flon Bombers participated in the tournament. Forwards Donavan Houle-Villeneuve, Caleb Moretz, Daylan Marchi, Chrystopher Collin and Nate Hooper, along with defender Calvon Boots, played for the SJHL’s Team Kunitz. Then-recent acquisition Cade Kowalski played on SJHL Team Mitchell, while forward Vincent Nardone, since traded to the BCHL’s Penticton Vees, played for SJHL Team Schwartz.
Collin and Houle-Villeneuve were tied for the tournament scoring lead after scoring four points each in two games and were the highest-scoring players eligible to return to the SJHL this season.
Out of the group of Bombers who attended last year’s event, six –Moretz, Collin, Hooper, Boots, Kowalski and Nardone - have signed scholarship offers from NCAA Division I schools.
