Former Flin Flon Bomber Daryl Fransoo is a fourth-generation farmer in the Glaslyn, Saskatchewan, area north of North Battleford.

The North Battleford-based Fransoo family is adept not only at growing crops, but also hockey players. Fransoo is just one member of his extended family that has played at a high level.

A defenceman, he suited up for the Bombers in 2003-04. Fransoo also played two seasons with the Weyburn Red Wings.

In 2005, he helped the Red Wings win a national Junior A championship when they hosted the Royal Bank Cup. He also played pro hockey in the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey in Quebec.

“The most pleasurable thing about playing in Flin Flon was the crazy fan support at the Whitney,” says Fransoo.

“Win or lose they always came out to support their Maroon and White,” added Fransoo, who emphasized he also had great billets in Flin Flon.

Fransoo’s brother, Jason, suited up in the Western Hockey League for Swift Current and Everett, and in Canadian Interuniversity Sport for the University of Alberta.

Their cousin, Curtis Fransoo, played for the Battlefords North Stars and the WHL’s Kootenay Ice.

Fellow cousin Jordan Fransoo competed for the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings and Victoria Royals as well as the University of Saskatchewan.

Kendall Fransoo, another cousin, currently plays for the North Stars.

Yet another cousin, Avery Fransoo, plays for female AAA midget for Notre Dame and has committed to compete next season at Providence College.
