The Flin Flon Bombers lost a member of the family last week.

Shane Goodrunning, one of the team’s dozens of alumni, was reported dead by the team and by family members April 11. Goodrunning was pronounced dead less than two weeks shy of his 29th birthday.

Goodrunning, originally from Rocky Mountain House, Alta., joined the Bombers in 2009. The forward played 19 games for the Bombers, scoring one goal and racking up 41 penalty minutes.

While used often as a bottom-line player and a fighter in Flin Flon, Goodrunning showed offensive flair after joining the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in the MJHL, tallying up 131 points in 134 games as a Wolverine. After aging out of junior hockey, Goodrunning joined the Alberta senior hockey ranks, first for his hometown Rocky Rams and later for the Blackfalds Wranglers.

“The Flin Flon Bombers organization was deeply saddened to hear of Shane Goodrunning’s passing. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends,” read a social media statement by the Bombers April 13.

“Once a Bomber, always a Bomber.”
