A rivalry so nice, they’ll play it twice –there will be two northern Manitoba rivalry games for the Flin Flon Bombers this preseason.

According to a preseason schedule released by the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL), the Bombers will fit in a pair of games with the rival OCN Blizzard, rather than the one game previously listed by the SJHL.

The Bombers will head to the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Arena for the first game Sept. 3, then will drive south to Swan River for a road date with the Swan Valley Stampeders Sept. 4. Both teams will make the trip north up Highway 10 to play at the Whitney Forum Sept. 5.

The Blizzard will make their way to the Forum for the rubber match with the Bombers Sept. 7.

According to the most current preseason schedule for the SJHL, the Bombers will also sneak in another two games against opponents in their own league, starting with a game in Nipawin against the Hawks Sept. 1 and a return date at home against Nipawin Sept. 6. Out of the four games for the Bombers against MJHL opponents listed by the MJHL, only two are also listed on the preseason schedule on the SJHL’s website –the Sept. 4 game in Flin Flon against the Stamps and the Sept. 7 game against the Blizzard.

Combining the two schedules shows the Bombers with six games in total, playing the six in just a seven day span. While preseason inter-league games between the Bombers and Blizzard have become a tradition in recent years, the annual games were cancelled last year after Blizzard management said the games would conflict with the team’s training camp.
