The former Flin Flon Bomber has been a head coach for his Alberta hometown’s novice team. He’s the trainer for the atom squad and also helps out with the bantam and midget age groups.

“I just would not be able to not be at the rink all the time! My love and passion for the game is so much and I love every minute helping kids trying to get where I have played because I learned so much playing hockey in Flin Flon,” Tkachuk said. “I’m so glad that’s where I spent my two and a half years of junior A hockey. I miss the place so much.”

After joining the Bombers as an 18-year-old, he helped the team make it to two straight Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League finals. It was the first time Tkachuk had been to a final series in hockey.

“The best experience a hockey player can have is going to the finals,” he said. “The fans in Flin Flon were unreal. Every game my heart was pumping with the amount of fans we got each game. It felt like it was a NHL game.”
