Bombers win 6-2 in Estevan, take league points lead

Collin has three points, Delorme gets first junior win
recap 2

The Flin Flon Bombers have ended one of the team's most successful recent road trips with a 6-2 win against Estevan.

The Bombers picked up seven out of a possible eight points in the four-game road swing through the SJHL's southern-based teams, finishing off with a commanding win at Affinity Place.

Billy Klymchuk opened the scoring halfway through the first for the Bombers. While Tristyn DeRoose did tie up the game minutes later, the Bombers took control in the second, with a pair of goals by Chrystopher Collin and Brandson Hein's league-leading 13th goal in 14 games.

Nate Hooper got on the board early in the third. Estevan's Eddie Gallagher and Bomber Dawson McKenzie swapped goals late.

Jacob Delorme earned his first junior hockey win, making 36 saves on 38 shots. Jake Anthony and Grant Boldt split the netminding duties for the Bruins.

The win puts the Bombers in sole possession of top spot in the SJHL with 18 points. While the Bombers have already played more games than any other SJHL team, they top both Humboldt and Kindersley, tied in second with 17 point each, and division rivals Nipawin and Melfort.

Bomber players now occupy the top two places in the SJHL scoring race - Hein leads with 26 points in 14 games, while Caleb Moretz, who was not in the Bomber lineup Sunday, sits second with 21 points in 12 games. Calvon Boots leads all defenders with 19 points and all skaters with 18 assists, while Daylan Marchi and Nate Hooper each sit in the top 10 with 18 and 17 points respectively.

After playing four games in five nights on the road, the Bombers will stay up north for the next two weeks, first facing Yorkton on Oct. 19 and 20, then rematches with Estevan Oct. 24 and Weyburn Oct. 26.
