Pot left on stove sparks fire, triggers rescues, at Saskatoon apartment block

SASKATOON — Firefighters rescued two people from a balcony and a third person from a basement suite after flames erupted in a Saskatoon apartment block.

Crews arrived at the west-end scene around 8:30 p.m. Sunday to find smoke and flames coming from a second-floor suite.

They were told people were still inside the building, prompting crews to search the block while others worked to quickly snuff out the fire.

A total of 21 people were forced from their homes, with one person suffering minor burns.

Four cats were also retrieved.

The damage estimate is upwards of $250,000 and investigators say the cause of the fire was a pot left on a stove. (CKOM, CTV Saskatoon)
