Letter to the Editor: number of local issues demand attention

Dear Editor, I’ve got so many things bugging me right now. The June bear shooting near École McIsaac School was just wrong.

Dear Editor,

I’ve got so many things bugging me right now.

The June bear shooting near École McIsaac School was just wrong. If the school was on “secure and hold” (“Bears euthanized near school,” The Reminder, July 5), why would the time not be taken to tranquilize the bears and relocate them?

Those poor bears. They didn’t have a chance!
How is this even allowed? In the city, more and more habitat is being taken away from wildlife daily.

Balloon releases are a super idea as well – not! Where do you think these piles of plastic end up? In the lakes?

I am still finding tinsel from the Canada Day parade. The decorations should all be biodegradable.

The Recycling Centre makes it very easy and very economical for residents and businesses to recycle. It makes no sense that a business that recycles pays more than those that do not.

My last visit to the Flin Flon landfill was a nightmare. Taking a rough guess, I’m guessing over half of the refuse should have ended up at the Recycling Centre.

We have an incredible program (red bag) and an awesome group at the Recycling Centre. So easy, so responsible, so right.

Thank goodness for all the volunteers Flin Flon has. Can’t forget them.

The SPCA could always use help or donations. There should be no need for animals needing a home. Please consider a donation of time, food or funds. This is an organization we are very fortunate to have in our city.

Of the last dozen dogs I have seen walking by, only two had owners that were picking up after them.

What is up with that? These are probably the same folks who think it is okay to litter.

Thank goodness for a handful of my earth buddies who always carry a bag with them on walks, just in case. You have huge hearts. Thank you. I am all for a smoking ban on Main Street. It would be so nice not to be surrounded by cigarette butts. Yes.

I am happy about the youth curfew as well. It is a huge responsibility for law enforcement, but the parents should be acting more responsibly. In some cases, I have seen young kids under 12 years old out on a school night after 2 am. Yikes.

Thank you for your time. I have to cut this short – I have dog waste on my shoes that I need to take care of.
