WHL Roundup: Burzan scores 3, adds 3 assists to power Wheat Kings over Warriors

BRANDON, Man. — Luka Burzan scored three goals and set up three more and Ben McCartney had a goal and three assists to power the Brandon Wheat Kings to an 11-1 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday in the Western Hockey League.

Ridly Greig and Cole Reinhardt each scored twice for Brandon (14-15-3) and Marcus Kallionkieli had a goal and two helpers. Jonny Lambos and Lynden McCallum also scored.

Tate Popple had the lone goal for the Warriors (10-17-1) in the second period to cut into a 5-0 deficit.

Wheat Kings goaltender Jiri Patera stopped 22 shots.

Adam Evanoff started in net for Moose Jaw, allowing five goals on 16 shots through the first period. Jackson Berry stopped 12-of-18 attempts the rest of the way.

SASKATOON — Orrin Centazzo scored twice, including a short-handed goal in the third period, and added an assist to lead Kamloops (20-9-3) over the Blades (14-15-3).

EDMONTON — Carter Souch had a goal and a helper, Riley Sawchuk had a pair of assists and Sebastian Cossa stopped 25 shots as the Oil Kings (21-6-7) downed Swift Current (6-21-3).

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Asrhdeep Bains had a pair of short-handed goals and Red Deer (11-17-3) overcame a late comeback attempt to beat the Tigers (22-9-1).

PORTLAND, Ore. —Reece Newkirk scored the winner 4:08 into overtime as the Winterhawks (21-6-3) rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat Everett (21-6-4) and extend their win streak to five games.

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Gary Haden scored twice in regulation and Tarun Fizer had the shootout winner as Victoria (16-9-2) handed the Cougars (6-20-4) their sixth straight loss.

KENT, Wash. —Payton Mount scored twice and Zachary Ashton had two assists to lift the Thunderbirds (10-16-3) over Tri-City (12-13-3).
