White-handed gibbon born at Winnipeg zoo doing well, soon ready for visitors

WINNIPEG — The Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg has welcomed a baby white-handed gibbon to its ape family.

The primate was born last week to first-time parents Maya and Samson.

The zoo says Maya is proving to be an attentive mother and the baby is doing well.

Staff don't yet know its gender as they are giving mom and baby privacy.

Visitors will get a chance to see the new gibbon for the first time on Valentine's Day.
