The Inner Wheel’s 19th annual boot sale promises a trove of treasures and good eats.

The sale, which originated in Britain where the trunk of a car is commonly referred to as a “boot,” will see community members come out to sell items typically found at a yard sale – household items, sporting goods, kitchen wares, books and clothing – either out of the trunk of their vehicle or at a table.

“One of our members holidayed [in England] almost 20 years ago, saw it, and thought it would be fun to implement in our community and raise money in a unique way,” said Brenda Russell, Inner Wheel member.

The Inner Wheel is a service group open to women in the community. It supports a number of projects including the food bank milk program, the PARTY Program and the seniors’ Christmas lights bus tour. The Inner Wheel also awards a citizenship scholarship to a graduating high school student.

Funds are raised for the Inner Wheel through the registration of the boot sale – it costs $15 for a spot to sell at the sale – and funds go into the organization’s general fund.

“We try to disperse it in many ways to make it go as far as we can. As a service club we like to focus on the betterment of our community and enhancing the quality of the community for all ages – we give to seniors programs and youth programs,” said Russell.

“The boot sale is a long time tradition. It’s so much fun. People love it, they come out, they wander around, sit and have something to eat, purchase a few things – it has a really festive atmosphere.”

The boot sale will take place on Saturday, June 9 from 10 am to 1 pm at the Victoria Inn parking lot. To register for a space to sell, call Nora at (204) 687-6188 before Friday, June 8.
