The finish line is coming up for the SnoRiders West SledTown ShowDown and Flin Flon is neck and neck with its opponent.

The online vote between Flin Flon and Tumbler Ridge, BC, held by snowmobiling publication SnoRiders West, will continue until Jan. 20.

As of Jan. 13, almost 50,000 votes have been cast between the two small towns, with Flin Flon hanging on to a slim lead, only 10 votes ahead.

“I’ve voted on every piece of equipment I’ve got today. I’ll have to do it again tomorrow,” said Flin Flon Mayor Cal Huntley at the Jan. 8 city council meeting, mentioning that time zones have played an interesting role in the voting.

“Because the hours are different, they get more active after we slow down, then we catch up with them the next day,” he joked.

Flin Flon won similar online votes against other Manitoba communities last year, including The Pas, Gimli, Powerview-Pine Falls and Thompson, then won another online vote over Hudson Bay, Sask., the location that received the most votes in a similar vote for Saskatchewan.

Voters can cast their vote on the SnoRiders West website at snoriderswest.com and can cast one vote per device or browser per day.
