ReStore experiences ReSurgence in new location

A move away from one of Flin Flon’s busiest arteries hasn’t hurt Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore.

In fact, the secondhand-item outlet has seen an uptick in business this summer.

Volunteer manager Kathy McCormick says ReStore is averaging 200-plus customers a week at its new location off of the Perimeter Highway near the SPCA animal shelter.

That’s a 60 per cent increase from the 125 weekly customers who visited the outlet last year, when it was situated on the grounds of the former armoury complex on Highway 10A.

ReStore, a rectangular wooden building, was moved to its current location last year to make way for the construction of the new North of 53 Consumers Co-op store.

ReStore opened for the season in late July and will remain open Wednesday to Saturday this year, as long as the weather permits.

The store offers a range of affordable items, from furniture and movies to newer options such as wheelchairs and a
bathtub lift.

The store is the primary fundraiser for Habitat 53°, the location branch of Habitat for Humanity, which assists low-income people in becoming homeowners.

Habitat 53° built its first home on Steventon Boulevard in 2015.
