Deschambault Lake RCMP ended the party early for a pair of alleged bootleggers last week, finding nearly two dozen bottles of whisky and other alcohol inside cars coming into town.

Two people were arrested near Deschambault Lake on two separate incidents of bootlegging liquor April 29 after RCMP received tips on the cases, according to a news release from Saskatchewan RCMP.

In the first case, police received information that a person suspected of bootlegging had returned to Deschambault Lake after leaving town a few hours earlier. Officers found the person and executed a traffic stop, finding open liquor inside the vehicle. After searching inside, police found several other bottles of liquor in the vehicle, hidden away from view.

Later in the day, more information was sent to police about a different person suspected of bootlegging. After finding the person and performing another traffic stop, police found several bottles of distilled alcohol and beer inside - a problem for the driver, who was on a court-ordered condition to not possess alcohol.

Deschambault Lake is currently under tight restrictions on community access due to concerns of COVID-19.

All the bottles, cans and containers were seized by police in both instances. Charges under section 138 of the Saskatchewan Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act were laid, with one of the two suspects also charged under the Traffic Safety Act for driving a vehicle that had not been registered.

The identities of the culprits and when they may appear in court are unknown.
