Premier Brian Pallister made his first appearance in Flin Flon last week since his election more than two years ago.

Pallister’s press secretary confirmed the visit on Aug. 9, the day after Pallister arrived in and left Flin Flon. The trip, characterized as “last-minute,” was conducted after the premier announced the replacement of Manitoba’s existing public safety communications system in Thompson.

After the announcement in Thompson, Pallister, along with provincial cabinet ministers Blaine Pedersen and Jeff Wharton, flew to Flin Flon, where they met with officials with the Northern Health Region (NHR) – including Flin Flon mayor and NHR board chair Cal Huntley and hospital chief of staff Dr. Dave Williams. The group also toured the Flin Flon General Hospital and the ongoing emergency department project.

The emergency department project is nearing completion, with construction set to finish by the end of the year.

An NHR spokesperson stated the premier’s office requested a tour of the site two weeks ahead of the visit.

The Flin Flon region has been represented in provincial legislature by the opposition NDP for almost five consecutive decades.

NDP MLA Tom Lindsey currently represents Flin Flon in provincial legislature.
