Restrictions on parks, playgrounds and beaches in Creighton and Denare Beach are gone as part of the last round of provincial reopening.

Parks and playgrounds are open as of June 12 in both communities.

While restrictions are lifted for the Denare Beach main beach, the beach will not reopen until late June. The beach is typically opened in late June.

Residents are advised to avoid public areas if they have flu-like symptoms, avoid overcrowding, keep a social distance of two metres between groups and to wash or sanitize hands before and after visiting a park or playground.

At beaches like Denare Beach’s main beach, people are asked to set up towels, blankets or other items at least four metres from other groups of people.

At the June 10 meeting of Creighton town council, Creighton Mayor Bruce Fidler said other recreation facilities would be included in later phases of Saskatchewan’s reopening plans, but reopenings would stay with only playgrounds and parks as part of the latest phase.

“The rest of the rec facilities are in phase four and we really don’t have any idea yet on when phase four is going to move. They’re going to do it in a couple of different steps, but there’s no dates yet,” said Fidler.

Other guidelines include keeping group sizes within provincial health guidelines - 30 people at most for outdoor gatherings, as of June 15 - and to consider limiting children to visiting areas close to home and using non-medical masks when social distancing is not possible.

Two new inclusive swings, including full seats and five-point harnesses, will be installed in Creighton-area playgrounds - one at Lions Park and one at Bereskin Park. The swings were purchased through funds raised by the Town of Creighton, the Flin Flon Rotary Club and Operation Red Nose. One similar swing was already installed at Red Mountain Park.
