A testing station for COVID-19 in Flin Flon is set to open later this week.

The Northern Health Region (NHR) announced plans to open up screening, testing and information stations in the three largest cities in northern Manitoba March 14, opening a testing station in Thompson March 16 at the Thompson Clinic located in the Plaza Mall.

Testing stations will be set up in Flin Flon and The Pas later this week. No confirmed locations or opening dates have been announced for either.

"Clients who present to the site will be triaged upon arrival and directed for testing as appropriate," said the NHR statement.

People are asked to attend the testing sites if they are showing cold or flu-like symptoms, particularly if they have travelled internationally within two weeks of reporting symptoms. if they have been in contact with people who have travelled and later felt ill or who have tested positive for or are suspected to have COVID-19.

Symptoms of COVID-19 vary in each case, but most commonly reported symptoms are a fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose. Some cases may also include headaches, weakness and respiratory problems.

Currently, the only other testing locations that have opened in Manitoba are located in Winnipeg. Other testing locations are in the works around the province.
