Another northern Manitoban with COVID-19 has died.

The province announced the sixth death of a person within the region who had previously tested positive - a woman in her 70s from the Grand Rapids/Misipawistik/Moose Lake/Mosakahiken/Easterville/Chemawawin health district. The woman's death was one of 12 deaths announced by provincial health officials Nov. 24. Most of the the deaths were reported in the Winnipeg area - eight of the deaths were tied to outbreaks at medical facilities and seniors' homes.

The region as a whole is now seeing a reduction in active cases, going from 450 active cases Monday to 445 active cases Tuesday. That reduction is due in part to a large number of cases in the Grand Rapids/Misipawistik/Moose Lake/Mosakahiken/Easterville/Chemawawin district now being marked as "recovered" by the province, going from 95 active cases Monday to 77 active cases Tuesday.

Other districts in the north that have seen heavy case loads either stayed the same or saw modest climbs in overall active cases - The Pas/OCN/Kelsey went up to 199 active cases from 196 Monday, while Thompson reported six more active cases Tuesday, with 22 active cases in the Thompson/Mystery Lake district. The Shamattawa/York Factory/Tataskweyak/Split Lake district now has 22 active cases, up one from Monday. Cross Lake/Pimickamak now has 50 active cases, while the Island Lake district increased to 47 active cases from 43 a day earlier.

The Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon health district has gone down from five active cases to four, with one case now marked as recovered. Health officials have confirmed one case each in workers at the Northern Lights Manor - which the province officially announced as an outbreak site Nov. 24, as reported by The Reminder a day earlier - and the Flin Flon Personal Care Home, while Hudbay has confirmed two Flin Flon-based employees have also tested positive. All those who have tested positive are isolating within the community and there is not yet any evidence to suggest community spread.

Aside from the update for Northern Lights Manor, no new public exposures have been announced in the Northern Health Region.
