No injuries reported in underground truck blaze

An underground fire at 777 mine on Nov. 24 led to workers being evacuated to surface.

At about 6 pm at the 1462 level of the mine complex, a contractor vehicle caught fire. All 50 people underground at the time were sent to refuge stations before being evacuated to the surface area of the mine property. No injuries were reported.

The provincial Mines Branch was told of the incident and is investigating the blaze. Operations underground at 777 mine were resumed as of Nov. 26, with an area near the burned vehicle secured for investigators.
