A fully-equipped rescue truck is the latest life-saving addition to the Flin Flon Fire Department.

The truck, known as Rescue 1, will be fully equipped with rescue, structural firefighting and hazmat equipment.

Another key feature is the walk in body, allowing the truck to be utilized as a mobile command post on incidents.

“We are proud to enhance the fire department’s service delivery and better serve our residents,” said Fire Chief Chad Cooper.

“After an internal review of the fire department, it was determined that a rescue truck would better enhance our service delivery.”

Cooper said the department has been using its frontline fire engine to house all structural and rescue equipment, and “it was simply overstocked and overweight.”

Rescue 1 has seating for nine firefighters, which Cooper said is valuable to getting firefighters to emergency scenes quickly and safely.

In April, city council authorized Cooper to purchase the 1996-model truck for $35,000 from a fire rescue unit in Hinton, Alberta.
