There can be few better examples of perseverance and resilience than Churchill - the community, the port, the rail line.

The news that grain is once again being shipped through the Hudson Bay Railway line and the Port of Churchill is the latest example of this.

When the previous owners shut it down, the people of Churchill and all along the Hudson Bay Railway line did not give up. There was so much at stake. The lifeline to the community, employment, access for residents and tourists alike.

There was so much more as well. A historic legacy. From the vision of prairie farmers in the 1880's to the construction that cost many workers their lives, to its opening in 1929 - a rail line and port that was always up against the vested interests in this country, but evolved into the important strategic asset it is today.A port and rail line that has huge potential with the opening up of Arctic shipping.

The renewed grain shipment sends a message to the world. Churchill is back and ready to take on the world.
