A hopeful day on the COVID-19 front for Manitoba - fewer than 100 new cases were reported Tuesday and the Flin Flon health district now sits at 12 active cases of COVID-19, down from 20 last week.

Another confirmed recovery from the disease was announced by the Manitoba government Jan. 26 as it released its most recent health data. The province reported a net total of 92 new cases of the disease, one of the lowest figures reported in months, with 36 new cases in the Northern Health Region (NHR).

None of the 36 new cases were found in the Flin Flon/Snow Lake/Cranberry Portage/Sherridon health district. The districts with the most new cases are the Island Lake district - which now has over 700 active cases of COVID-19 according to provincial statistics - and the Bunibonibee/Oxford House/Manto Sipi/Gods River/Gods Lake district. Both reported eight new cases. Six new cases are marked as "unknown district", while the Gillam/Fox Lake district reported its own increase of six cases.

New cases were also reported in the Cross Lake/Pimicikamak, Grand Rapids/Misipawistik/Moose Lake/Mosakahiken/Easterville/Chemawawin, Lynn Lake/Marcel Colomb/Leaf Rapids/O-Pipon-Na-Piwin/Granville Lake and Thompson/Mystery Lake districts. More details on active cases per district within the NHR can be found below.

Provincially, five more deaths due to COVID-19 have been announced, all in southern Manitoba communities. In the past five days, about 10.3 per cent of Manitobans tested for COVID-19 have tested positive.

Manitoba has 3,492 active cases, including 1,765 in the NHR. A total of 277 Manitobans are in hospital due to COVID-19, with 38 people in ICUs due to the disease. Since the pandemic began, 809 Manitobans have died from COVID-19.

Saskatchewan

Things aren't exactly the same in the Land of the Living Skies, which reported 232 new cases Tuesday and a whopping 14 new deaths from COVID-19. Four of the new cases were reported in the far north east health zone, two of which were found in the far north east 2 health zone.

Despite the new cases, the active case load for the far north east 2 zone is dropping. There are now 28 total active cases in the zone, which contains Creighton, Denare Beach, Pelican Narrows, Sandy Bay and other nearby communities. As Saskatchewan does not provide district-by-district case data as Manitoba, the number of cases in particular areas of the far north east 2 health zone is not known.
