Cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba and Saskatchewan continued to climb this weekend, including increases in northern Saskatchewan.

Three new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Manitoba May 10, bringing the province's number of reported cases up to 287 and active cases to 33.

Six hundred and forty-one tests were performed Saturday at Winnipeg's Cadham Provincial Laboratory. No new recoveries from COVID-19 have been reported.

Meanwhile, Saskatchewan's number of COVID-19 cases has increased substantially over the weekend. Twenty new cases have been reported since Friday - nine new cases May 9 and another 11 announced May 10.

Of the 20 cases, 14 were reported in the far north - five May 9 and another nine a day later. Saskatchewan has reported 564 cases of the disease, including 209 active cases. Exact locations of the reported cases were not released. Three of the nine new cases of COVID-19 reported in the far north May 9 were in La Loche.

Cases in La Loche are approaching 140 - almost twice as many as have been reported in Regina throughout the outbreak.

Since the outbreak began, more cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the far north region than any other location within the province. Saskatoon, the second largest hub in Saskatchewan for the disease, has reported 163 total cases, with only 14 still active.

Provincially imposed travel restrictions on northern Manitoba and northern Saskatchewan are continuing, in compliance with provincial public health orders.
