A Flin Flon woman faces possible jail time after pleading guilty to embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from a local financial institution.

Allison Rogers pleaded guilty to three counts of theft over $5,000. She will be sentenced on March 10, 2016.

Rogers was an employee of a local bank when she embezzled an amount RCMP said totalled more than $30,000.

Court heard that the three charges involved two accounts in a single day, Dec. 31, 2013, and theft over a period of time from the bank itself.

Rogers entered her pleas in Flin Flon provincial court on Thursday, Nov. 5. Under the Criminal Code of Canada, an individual found guilty of one count of theft over $5,000 faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

Rogers was arrested on March 14, 2015, more than a year after RCMP received information that an employee at the financial institution had embezzled considerable dollars.

At the time, RCMP said the full amount of money stolen was not known as a full audit was being completed.

Police did, however, say the amount stolen was substantial and that their own investigation confirmed an internal theft.

While more than a year passed before charges were laid, RCMP spokeswoman Tara Seel said previously that such commercial crimes are “quite complex” and investigations “take some time to complete.”

Police did not identify the financial institution involved in the case.
