The gears are in motion for the 2019 Flin Flon Pride weekend, with hopes of introducing some new events to this year’s proceedings.

After the success of the August 2018 event, the Flin Flon Pride committee anticipates new features for 2019’s Pride weekend – including adding an entire new day of programming.

“We are revamping the committee this year and have some new faces,” said event organizer Jordana Oulette.

Oulette told The Reminder that while plans still need to be approved by the City of Flin Flon, there has been an outpouring of support from residents.

“I see us growing each year,” said Oulette. “This year, I am really excited to do some new things and add an extra day to pride weekend.”

The Flin Flon Pride committee is hoping for the event to run from Friday to Sunday, instead of wrapping up on Saturday like it did in 2017 and 2018.

The committee’s plans include their annual flag-raising ceremony, a trans march, LGBTQ+ Pride parade and what may be Flin Flon’s first-ever drag show. This will be the city’s third annual Pride event and second annual trans march.

The Pride committee hopes to submit their plans to Flin Flon city council for approval as soon as possible, but do not expect confirmation until the beginning of May.
