After more than 100,000 votes and weeks of ballot-box stuffing, the SnoRiders SledTown ShowDown has ended and things didn’t go Flin Flon’s way.

Tumbler Ridge, BC pipped Flin Flon to the finish in an online vote to determine western Canada’s top snowmobiling destination, earning 51,553 votes to Flin Flon’s 51,296 when voting closed Jan. 20. At several points throughout the voting, the two communities went back and forth exchanging the lead, often with only a single-digit margin separating the two towns.

Organized by snowmobiling magazine SnoRiders, Flin Flon won similar online polls against several Manitoba communities late last year, beating out The Pas, Gimli, Powerview-Pine Falls and Thompson. Flin Flon then advanced further in the online contest, beating Saskatchewan vote champ Hudson Bay to set up a matchup with Tumbler Ridge.

If Flin Flon had won, the community would receive feature articles in SnoRiders and on the publication’s website, along with in-magazine advertising and a special trophy.
