Eight new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Saskatchewan, with all but one being reported in the far north.

A day after the province issued an order restricting travel into northern Saskatchewan, seven cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the far north region. Several new cases of the disease have been tied to locations in La Loche, where cases have been reported at an area seniors' facility and the local RCMP detachment.

More than half of the active cases in Saskatchewan are situated in the far north of the province. The number of cases in the far north of Saskatchewan - the area covering most of Saskatchewan north of Meadow Lake, including Creighton, Denare Beach, Sandy Bay, Deschambault Lake, Pelican Narrows and other areas - has gone from single digits last week to 35 as of Saturday, with most new cases tied directly to the La Loche outbreak.

Out of the 35 cases, 32 are considered active - more than half the provincial number of active cases, which sits at 57. The province notes that two of the far north Saskatchewan cases are considered presumptive positives, rather than confirmed positives, and there may be more recovered cases reported to Public Health that have not yet been recorded.

Four people in Saskatchean are hospitalized due to COVID-19, with two in intensive care.
