A junior miner unveiled plans Monday for a comprehensive exploration program near the long-defunct Namew Lake mine.
Quantum Minerals Corp. will conduct 6,000 metres of diamond drilling and refined geophysics on its Namew Lake VMS (volcanogenic massive sulphide) Project, formerly known as the Rocky Lake VMS Project.
“We are looking forward to the (2013-14) exploration program and will continue to develop our district scale project into an economic mineral resource,” Quantum CEO Balraj Mann said in a news release.
In 2013-14, Quantum plans to complete a two-phase work program to further investigate the Namew Lake VMS Project as an economic mineral resource.
That was a step recommended by a geologist’s report released in May.
The exploration program will include 2,500 metres of drilling in phase one and 3,500 metres in phase two.
It will also have a program with specific focus on a potential high-grade massive sulphide formation in addition to drilling on select conductors from 41 geophysics targets.
Detailing
The work will further include the detailing and refining of current drill targets.
In the spring of 2011, the Vancouver-based Quantum had a helicopter-borne geophysical survey performed over the property.
A total of 2,142 line-kilometres of geophysical data were acquired during the survey, the purpose of which was to identify potential targets for drilling and sources of mineralization.
In late 2011 and early 2012, workers drilled nine holes.
Earlier this year, Mann said the exploration and drilling was successful at testing mineralization identified through geophysics.
“Based on the results, it is reasonable to assume that there could be potential for deposit scale mineralization,” he wrote in previous a letter to shareholders. “The geophysics has shown to be an excellent exploration indicator, serving as a proof of concept for further exploration potential.”
The Namew Lake Project comprises the contiguous Rocky Lake and Rocky-Namew properties totalling over 55,000 hectares.
The project is located 65 kilometres south of Flin Flon off Highway 10. It is also 11 kilometres from the former Namew Lake nickel-copper mine.
That mine, operated by HBMS (now Hudbay) closed in Oct. 1993, with decommissioning completed in early 1994.
The TSX Venture Exchange has not reviewed and does not accept the responsibility for the adequacy or accuracy of information supplied by Quantum.
