Here we go again – the Flin Flon Arts Council is moving forward with plans for its major upcoming musical.

With Culture Days now in the books, the production of Mamma Mia!, slated to hit the RH Channing Auditorium stage next May, will begin to take precedence.

A director has been named for the production – Ann Hodges will take the helm for the musical. An acclaimed director based in Winnipeg, Hodges has worked extensively with the Manitoba Theatre Company, Manitoba Theatre for Young People and groups and shows across Canada.

Auditions for the musical will be held on Oct. 21 and 22, with rehearsals coming later this fall.

“We’re hoping to spread the information for auditions all around the north,” said Kolt.

That could include performers from outside of Flin Flon, from across the north – it is the first time the Arts Council has ever issued such a wide casting call.

“I’m curious to see who’s going to audition,” said Kolt, adding that having a director like Hodges on board may provide incentive to potential performers.

“We’re really wanting to open up to whoever may be interested in it. Of course, if they’re not from Flin Flon, they will have to be in town for the three-month period – some people may be willing to do it, especially when we have a director like Ann coming in, to have the opportunity to work under her is a really exciting opportunity.”

The final cast is expected to be named in early November.
