COVID-19 has come back with a vengeance in Saskatchewan, with the province finding higher positive test numbers than ever reported before.

Another 31 cases were reported July 27. Saskatchewan has cleared well over the 1,000 total case mark, coming in at 1,209 total cases as of July 27.

Most of the new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the central and south regions. Few new cases have been found in either the north or far north regions, with cases still centred around communities in the western half of the province’s north.

Active cases in Saskatchewan have spiked from 40 to 307 from July 11 to July 27 - the highest level the province has yet seen during the pandemic. Saskatchewan cleared the 1,000 total case barrier July 22, followed by over 200 more cases in the next five days. The number of new cases reported province-wide on July 16, 22, 23, 25, 26 and 27 are now the highest per-day numbers reported in Saskatchewan during the entire pandemic.

Earlier July 27, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) announced another possible exposure event at a Saskatoon law firm, saying that anyone who had attended Benesh, Bitz and Company from July 15-26 should self-monitor for symptoms for two weeks.

The numbers come after a spike in cases in the south and central regions tied to outbreaks on Hutterite colonies. Public health orders are in effect for several rural municipalities where infections have been reported.
