Flin Flon’s second Pride Week is hours away from its official kickoff.

Preparations for this year’s events have been in the works for months, including fundraising campaigns and the painting of a rainbow crosswalk at the intersection of Main Street and Second Avenue on Aug. 11.

Events for the week officially begin on Aug. 17 with a flag raising, opening ceremony and Flin Flon’s first trans march beginning at 5 pm. Following the official start will be a community barbecue at Pioneer Square, a family dance and a teen movie night at Creighton Community Hall and an “Anything But Clothes” party at the Copperbelt Hotel starting at 10 pm.

The week is headlined by the Pride Parade on Aug. 18, starting on Green Street at 11 am and winding its way through the community before finishing on Main Street. Following the parade will be Pride in the Park, a family celebration at the Creighton Spray Pool. One final event, the Second Chance Prom, will be held at the Unwinder, beginning at 9 pm.

A new event, a special Catholic Pride mass, will be held at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Paul Bringleson officiating. It will be the first mass of its kind to be held in Flin Flon and the second time in as many years that the church will host a Pride event.
