The City of Flin Flon has issued a set of guidelines and essential services for the community in the wake of COVID-19 spreading through Canada.

The City listed priority levels for each type of City operated service, listing water and sewer and fire service as “must operate”.

“[The services] will have resources directed toward continued service even in the event of an outbreak,” reads a statement issued by the City of Flin Flon March 13.

Other levels, including public works, council and senior City administration, were listed as “must/possible modified operation”, stating that these positions may see changes in work hours, responsibilities or tasks during a COVID-19 situation.

City office staff is listed as “possible modified operation”, while recreation facilities including the Whitney Forum and Flin Flon Community Hall are listed as “may or may not operate.”

“The services that are not water and sewer or fire-related may be limited at times or even temporarily suspended according to the needed response,” said the City statement.

No concrete decision has yet been announced as to whether or not any City owned or operated facilities will be closed. As of March 13, all City facilities remain open.

To help combat the spread of COVID-19, the City will be introducing what it calls “hygiene practices to help minimize the potential risks at a personal level,” including making disinfectant wipes or hand sanitizer available at some public spaces.

“We encourage everyone to adopt these practices both in their business and private lives,” said the City statement.

“Services will not be limited unnecessarily.”
