Council members said hello to the City of Flin Flon’s newest employee during their Oct. 1 meeting - public relations and community engagement manager Nathaniel Boucher.

Boucher’s position officially began Sept. 30, just one day before the meeting.

Originally from mining communities in northern Ontario, Boucher graduated from the public relations program of Canadore College in North Bay. He recently worked with the Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology in Ontario on recent rebranding and communication efforts.

The new hire gave a brief introduction to councillors, detailing his background.

“I spent about half of my life in Haileybury, Ontario, just outside of Cobalt, where they mined cobalt. I spent the other half in Timmins,” Boucher said.

City treasurer Lyn Brown said Boucher’s first day on the job was all about adjustment.

“It was kind of an overwhelming day, lots of new faces, trying to understand even the building itself and some of the things we do,” she said.

“I was really happy to see him come into work this morning,” Brown joked.

The creation of Boucher’s job was part of a larger City of Flin Flon communications strategy, outlined in the release of the City’s strategic plan earlier this year. That plan includes an updated City of Flin Flon website, which should be officially unveiled later this month, along with a new app and phone alert system for residents. Boucher will be tasked with providing new information and updates to the new site and app.
