Taxi drivers and other fee for service vehicle operators will see regulations change after a new measure was approved by Flin Flon city council.

During their meeting on Feb. 5, Flin Flon councillors passed a new vehicle for hire bylaw.

With Mayor Cal Huntley and councillor Ken Pawlachuk both absent from the meeting attending the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) convention, deputy mayor Tim Babcock approved the measure on third reading.

Visits

Council members will have their schedules filled with travel and events in the near future.

Council unanimously approved sending delegates representing the city to three meetings in three different provinces in the coming months.

First, council approved a plan to send a delegation of four people to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Conference and Trade Show in Quebec City from May 30 to June 2. One delegate from council will head to the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) Mineral Exploration and Mining Convention in Toronto March 3 to 6. A separate delegation is already slated to head to the event representing the Town of Creighton.

Finally, a third delegation of three people will represent the city at the Municipal Officials Seminar and Municipal Trade Show in Winnipeg. That event will take place Mar. 19 and 20.

Vacant buildings

A bylaw for regulating the condition of vacant and derelict buildings was passed on third and final reading. Part of the new bylaw will include discouraging boarding up some vacant properties
