The City of Flin Flon may throw its cowboy hat in the ring for a potential concert, featuring Canadian country music stalwart Charlie Major.

Dauphin’s Countryfest has organized a contest as part of the 30th anniversary of the event, allowing a non-profit organization in one Manitoba community to host a concert headlined by Major. Countryfest would provide the entertainment, while the community hosting the show would have all proceeds dedicated to the non-profit group. The contest is open to communities with 10,000 residents or fewer.

Entries to the contest are due before Mar. 31. A panel of judges will then select seven finalist communities, with an online vote determining the final winner.

At the Dec. 18 Flin Flon city council meeting, councillors voiced their interest in entering the contest.

“They’ve offered the opportunity to supply a concert for a winning community,” said Huntley. “It’s going to be a big win for whatever community gets it and we’re sure going to give it a shot.”
