The Town of Creighton is moving forward with plans for the Creighton Sportex.

The town has approved and signed a contract with Associated Engineering for a building plan and 3D renderings of the Sportex site. In total, the plan has a price of $11,500 for the town.

Earlier this year, the town budgeted $20,000 for a feasibility study for the arena to determine how it will be used and whether any changes should be made to the building.

Council was acting on a recommendation from the town’s environmental, public health and environmental development committee and approved the plan during the July 25 council meeting.

Creighton mayor Bruce Fidler said the plan is to review the site, but not to shut down the venue or get rid of the Sportex ice surface.

“We’re not replacing that with anything else, but making better use of the existing facility as it is,” Fidler said.

“That’s what it is – better use of the building, of the area.”

As for the Sportex feasibility study, Fidler said efforts are ongoing between the town and the consultants working on the project.

“They’re still working on it. We’ve had minor discussions with them, here and there. They’re working on finishing that up and then this portion, with the 3D thing, will accommodate that when it’s all done,” said Fidler.
