Calls to Creighton RCMP almost hit the century mark last month, with police alerted to several assaults, a truck theft in Denare Beach, vandalism and an attempted attack on an elder.

Police with the Creighton detachment were called 98 times through February, an average of three-and-a-half calls per day.

Most of the calls for service came from the Denare Beach area, with 20 coming from the Denare Beach municipal area and 43 from the Amisk Lake reserve area.

In total, 16 mischief calls came in from the community. Most of the calls involved intoxicated people unwilling to leave private homes. Two mischief calls from Amisk Lake involved an offender cutting off an electronic monitoring bracelet. The offender was quickly located by police and taken to the detachment.

Calls involving a smashed rear truck window, vandalism to the DenarePlex and people going through a yard were also reported.

There were six assault complaints in Denare Beach, including two domestic assaults that ended with charges. Court dates have been set in both instances. A third domestic assault call ended with a charge that was later withdrawn by the Crown, while another call of domestic assault coming from a third party did not end with any arrests.

Another assault call came after an elder tried to boot intoxicated people out of her home when at least one intoxicated person attempted to charge her.

“Charges will not be sought in this matter based on common sense,” reads the report.

The sixth and final assault call involved brothers who got into a physical altercation with each other.

“There are ongoing issues with the brothers when they are drinking,” the RCMP report stated.

One break-and-enter was reported in Denare Beach. RCMP are still investigating the incident, but according to the reports, “the person or persons involved seemed to go right to specific property.”

One major theft involving a stolen truck was reported. The vehicle was recovered and a suspect was apprehended.

RCMP conduct curfew checks nightly around Denare Beach as part of the detachment’s offender management program.

Thirty-five calls for service came in from Creighton, with two assaults included in the statistics. One woman was arrested after a call saying she had hit another woman. A court case has begun in relation to the incident.

The second assault call involved a man allegedly hitting his sister. The victim did not press charges in the matter and the attacker was removed from the scene.

A pair of thefts were reported, including one for shoplifting and another for a stolen phone that was later discovered to have been taken by the caller’s roommate. There were seven mischief calls, mostly involving unruly, inebriated individuals. One involved an angry motorist calling about a truck parked in a private parking space.

There were no complaints from the Sturgeon Landing area in February.
